Bayou City Media History
Bayou City Media's beginnings extend back to 1995 when we decided to launch a community portal for our community. Since there was no portal software available, we decided to develop it ourselves. The goal was to produce an easy to use community portal with the Internet's new capabilities for local communities and to enable communities to find information, publish and communicate with each other in new, more efficient ways.
Our first site was Woodlands Online®, launched in June 1996 that began as a free local business directory, similar to an online yellow pages, for The Woodlands, Texas. It quickly grew into a comprehensive community portal offering free classifieds and jobs, along with local news and events. The site became an extraordinary venue for local advertisers to promote their businesses, brands, products and services. Woodlands Online® has become one of the top advertising supported sites in the greater Houston area.
The success of Woodlands Online®, along with the prompting of many Houstonians who use the site, led to the company deciding to further invest in technology to expand and serve communities throughout the Houston area.
By January 2009, Bayou City Media had produced over 60 community portal sites in greater Houston. The Web sites, using our For the Community, By The CommunitySM publishing systems, strive to become useful daily resources for residents and businesses alike in all the communities we serve.
The portal software, DynaPortalTM, became an industry leader in its class and is used throughout the World. Bayou City Media continues to collaborate with DynaPortal Software in co-developing and/or integrating new Web technologies to better serve our communities.
